Welcome to Outside the Brass Ring! Happy WrestleMania! In less than four hours, we will be kicking off with the WrestleMania preshow. I figured I’d give you my thoughts on each match along with my prediction of who is going to win, and that’s what I did here. Tonight, after WrestleMania has concluded, I will take to Hardly Serious to give you my recap and review of every single match. Let’s hope that WWE does will with their biggest event of the year, and hopefully it will be better than NXT Takeover Dallas! With that being said, here are my predictions.
The Usos VS The Dudley Boyz
Thoughts: I’m pretty sure I touched on this topic in my last Hardly Serious post about The Dudley Boyz new change, but if I didn’t, here’s my thoughts on it. I hate it. The whole draw for The Dudley Boyz was their tables. They would ‘get the tables’ and everyone would go crazy, and now that’s gone. I mean, I get that character changes are a thing in WWE, but this one wasn’t necessary. I get the heel turn aspect of it, but I hate the loss of their gimmick. I’m glad that The Dudley Boyz aren’t in the tag team title picture, so that’s the only real upside I have on them. The Usos, on the other hand, I wish were in the tag team title picture right now. They are honestly the only tag team I like right now, and I think they deserve the championships. The rather unfortunate thing about the tag team division is that it relies on superstars staying in a tag team and not getting a solo push. If a solo push is mad, a tag team is ruined, and that sucks for the division. What the tag team division needs right now is some NXT talent to come up and save everyone else. Yes, I’m talking about Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady.
Winner: The Usos
Total Divas (Paige, Brie Bella, Natalya, Alicia Fox, & Eva Marie) VS “BAD & Blonde” (Emma, Lana, Naomi, Tamina, & Summer Rae)
Thoughts: I guess this is an alright match, however I hate a good majority of these divas. I could go one by one and explain why I dislike them, but that would take too long. However, I’m going to briefly discuss it because I’m here. I absolutely hate that Lana is in this match. She hasn’t wrestled ever, and now her first match is a WrestleMania match, which is bound to be terrible for her. She’s not that good from what she’s shown, and I’m not expecting anything to happen with him. Along with that, Summer Rae is still struggling in her wrestling technique and should have never been anymore than Fandango’s dancing partner. Eva Marie shouldn’t have come up, nobody wanted her to. The crowds hate her, and she will sure get boos at WrestleMania even though the rest of her team should get cheered. It sucks that this is going to be Brie Bella’s final match and this is what she has to work with, but hopefully she’ll end her career with a WrestleMania victory. Everyone else in this match, I can tolerate to an extent, so I don’t have too much to say about them. I’m glad they’ve brought Emma up and I hope she’ll be able to do some good in the divas division in the following months. Other than that, I don’t have much else to say about this match.
Winner: Total Divas (Paige, Brie Bella, Natalya, Alicia Fox, & Eva Marie)
Kalisto© VS Ryback
Thoughts: Well, I absolutely hate Ryback and what his character has come to. All he has to show for himself is his size. His entire gimmick is based off of him being the big guy but, he’s not even that big compared to a good amount of other superstars. He’s not really good on the microphone, and he struggles through his promos. He’s alright in the ring, but I don’t see anything new from him. He’s a jobber trying to live a mid card life right now and it’s not working out for him. Kalisto, on the other hand, I absolutely love. I just kind of hate how they’re making him seem like such an underdog because of his size. They’re putting him over as a Rey Mysterio character, and he doesn’t really need it. I love him as the United States Champion, and I think his reign should last longer, especially if his opponents are the likes of Ryback.
Winner: Kalisto©
Andre The Giant Battle Royal
Thoughts: This is one of those matches that I find hard to complain about because it is honoring a WWE legend and hall of famer. However, this is one of those matches that is only used to give a lot of the leftover mid card superstar a chance to be at WrestleMania. It’s a match so people don’t forget about superstars like The Social Outcasts. However, rumours have it that this match will occur at WrestleMania rather than the WrestleMania Kick Off show, which could mean a special debut or return. This peaked my interest a bit, but I still don’t really like the reasonings behind this match. I just don’t like how they scrambled to bring storyline into it like how they did on 03.28.16’s edition of RAW. It just feels sloppy.
Winner: –
Triple H© VS Roman Reigns
Thoughts: Well, I think I speak for a large population of the WWE Universe when I say that I hate this match in its entirety. This rivalry is just really dumb, in my opinion. You can’t really have a face, like Roman Reigns, rebelling against the authority, it just doesn’t work. With the crowd’s reactions, you can tell that they utterly hate this storyline. Triple H as champion was a bad idea in itself, but I get it, but they had to have someone else face off against him. Roman Reigns should’ve lost at Fastlane and that should’ve been the end of it. If they wanted this to work out, they should’ve started booking Roman Reigns as a heel long before the last RAW of the road to WrestleMania. In this rivalry, Triple H needed to battle against a heel to get the crowd reacting well. WWE obviously failed in doing this, and this match is going to be the consequence. Rumours have it that this match has turned into a no disqualification, but I have no idea if it is true or not, we will see.
Winner: Roman Reigns
Dean Ambrose VS Brock Lesnar (with Paul Heyman) in a No Holds Barred Street Fight
Thoughts: Okay, so this all started at Fastlane in the Triple Threat match for the number one contendership, where Dean Ambrose cost Brock Lesnar the match by hitting him with a steel chair. You know how the beast gets when he’s angry, it’s not pretty. They’ve gone back and forth in the past few weeks post Fastlane, and their storyline has been developing pretty well. Dean Ambrose has been visited by legends, such as Mick Foley and Terry Funk, who have been providing him with weapons of destruction for his no holds barred street fight. This would be the perfect way for Dean Ambrose to make his well awaited heel turn, which the crowd would go crazy for. Dean Ambrose isn’t good face; he can’t perform to his fullest lunatic ability as a face, it just doesn’t work. If he turns heel tonight, the crowd would go crazy, but I’m not sure if WWE will see it that way. With his wagon of toys following close behind him, Dean looks to be ready for his match tonight against the beast incarnate.
Winner: Dean Ambrose
Shane McMahon VS The Undertaker inside Hell in a Cell
Thoughts: This was such a sudden thing, but it’s worked out so well, at first. Shane McMahon came back and the crowd was automatically tuned in. When his opponent and place was announced, I got excited. Shane Mcmahon versus The Undertaker…. inside Hell in a Cell?!?!? Wow, WWE has got me in real quick. However, they screwed up, and they screwed up bad. Vince McMahon gave this match another stipulation, and that was: If The Undertaker loses against Shane McMahon, this will be his last WrestleMania. Yeah, that destroyed this entire match for me because it basically told everyone how it was going to end. Do you really think WWE will make The Undertaker’s last match at WrestleMania be this one? Well, I hope so. I mean, I really want Shane to win and take control of Monday Night RAW, but this match has me skeptical. This will hopefully be a fun one to watch, and hey, maybe someone will come and interfere to help Shane out a little bit. I don’t know, anything could happen at WrestleMania, right?
Winner: Shane McMahon
Charlotte© VS Becky Lynch VS Sasha Banks
Thoughts: In my opinion, Charlotte has held the championship for too long. I hate how her character has been in WWE because she has to have her father there at all times, and it doesn’t give her any room to be her own character. She’s just become ‘Ric Flair’s daughter.’ Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks both deserve the championship, which made it rather hard for me to pick a winner for this match, but I chose Sasha. I think she deserves it right now and the crowd is absolutely in love with her. I think that this triple threat match will push both Sasha and Becky up into the crowd’s eyes and will help elevate the divas division. However, rumours have been circulating that on the RAW after WrestleMania, Stephanie McMahon will be rebranding the divas division as the women’s division. If this is true, it opens the door for either Sasha or Becky to become the first women’s champion of the modern era. This would be huge for either of their careers, but I think they’ll give it to Sasha tonight.
Winner: Sasha Banks
Kevin Owens© VS Sami Zayn VS Stardust VS The Miz VS Dolph Ziggler VS Zack Ryder VS Sin Cara
Thoughts: I really like that they are having a ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship. I like the contenders that are in this match, and I think this match will be quite beneficial for some of these superstars careers. I think this will give one of this lowcard superstars a huge push that they deserve, and hopefully help the other five on the way up. I really want this match to end with Zack Ryder picking up the victory, but after watching NXT Takeover Dallas, I feel as though WWE will be giving it to Sami Zayn after his emotional match against Nakamura. I will be quite happy with the results of this match if either Sami Zayn, Dolph Ziggler, or Zack Ryder wins, but I am 100% pulling for Zack Ryder.
Winner: Zack Ryder or Sami Zayn
The New Day© VS The League of Nations
Thoughts: I honestly hate this storyline and there are so many reasons why. First, it’s the New Day, and I can’t stand them, but what I can’t stand more than them is the League of Nations. My first question is, why does this match go on the actual show and Kalisto defending his title gets pushed to the kick off show? Last I heard, this wasn’t for the championships, but I could be wrong. However, the League of Nations will soon be down a member considering that King Barrett has announced his leave from WWE. If this is a championship match, I don’t see why they would give the title to the League of Nations, considering we would be going from one freebird tag team to another, it’d just be weird.
Winner: The New Day© (sadly)
Chris Jericho VS AJ Styles
Thoughts: As soon as AJ Styles came to the WWE, I was worried. I was worried that they would debut him superman style and push him down like they did with Tyler Breeze. However, they booked him quite differently and I couldn’t be happier right now. I love how they’ve been developing this storyline with Jericho and Styles, and I hope it ends well tonight. When they started the whole Y2AJ thing, I was worried that they would destroy both their characters by forcing a tag team, but they didn’t. They had Jericho turn heel, which created for a tense atmosphere between the two. They’ve been going back and forth, taunting each other, and they’ve been having a good reaction with the crowd. The crowd is loving their rivalry, and I think tonight’s match will cap it off for the better.
Winner: AJ Styles
